Polygon zkEVM Outage Update

As we shared last week, Polygon’s zkEVM rollup temporarily stopped processing blocks on March 23. Polygon has since released their analysis stating that this outage was due to the sequencer failing because of a reorg on Ethereum mainnet. Reorganizations, or reorgs, are done when there are inconsistencies between processors regarding transaction order or validity. The reorg is done to decide which order is valid and discards the others. Reorgs are a good thing because they keep the network secure, but it can apparently cause hiccups on rollups built on the mainnet since they communicate directly with the mainnet, and in particular its organization of time.

The creator of Ordinals, Casey Rodarmor, will release a new protocol called Runes after the halving, currently scheduled for April 20 (this could change as it is based on block number, not dates). While each NFT is meant to be unique, Runes will open up the possibility for fungible, or non-unique, tokens. For example, each Bored Ape is unique, but each MATIC token is not.
